    Weather in Ferny Creek

    Weather in Ferny Creek is an electronic poem, written for the ngurrak barring project, inspired by the Ferny Creek weather station. It comprises three sections that draw on the current weather, plants and animals observed in the station's surroundings to produce the lines of poetry.

    Sources

    The weather data in this work is for the location of the Ferny Creek weather station and is sourced from the OpenWeatherMap API every fifteen minutes. The plants and animals are species identified and recorded in a one-kilometre radius around the Ferny Creek weather station and were obtained from the Atlas of Living Australia. The background image was created from A Charming Dell, Ferny Creek, Victoria.

    Benjamin Laird

    Benjamin Laird is a Naarm-based software engineer and poet who grew up in Kallista. His print and electronic poetry have been published in various journals. His longer works include the digital chapbook The Durham Poems, part of a series of poems on William Denton, a nineteenth-century spiritualist, scientific lecturer, and radical.

    I pay my respect to the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nations on whose land this work was written and is located. I pay my respect to all Elders, past, present, and emerging. I acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded, and the struggle for stolen land, stolen wages, and stolen wealth continues.

    As a work distributed across networks and servers located locally and overseas, I stand in solidarity with the struggles of First Nations people for sovereignty here and around the world and with those currently experiencing the violence of settler colonialism.
